Dear Doctoral Students,
On the occasion of the 625th anniversary of the University of Heidelberg, the Graduate Academy is pleased to be hosting the first Heidelberg Doctoral Students’ Week from October 10 – 13, 2011.

The programme consists of a variety of workshops, lectures and information events offering doctoral students many opportunities for support and networking within and beyond their doctoral training.

The highlight of the week will be the reception for doctoral students on the evening of October 12th, 2011. The reception will begin with a panel discussion entitled “Zu welchem Ende promovieren?” (“Why Do a Doctoral Degree?”). Representatives from academia, politics, and the private sector will discuss the value of a doctorate both on the individual and the societal level. After the discussion, the Graduate Academy invites all doctoral students to get together informally in the Neue Universität over wine and pretzels. If you feel you will not benefit from the podium discussion in German, we welcome you to join us simply at the reception at 7:30 pm.

We hope to see many of you at the various events during the week!
