About us Council for Graduate Studies

The Council for Graduate Studies is an advisory committee to the university.

The committee:

• meets once a semester and reports to the Rectorate,
• provides conceptual input for the design, promotion and development of suitable overarching structures and quality standards for the qualification phases of young researchers,
• promotes exchange between the faculties in order to support them in the continuing development of the framework conditions for young researchers,
• contributes from a supra-disciplinary perspective to the harmonization of the strategic projects of the faculties within the framework of the quality assurance processes,
• advises the Graduate Academy on the continuing development of its services and accompanies the development of the strategic orientation of the Graduate Academy as well as the implementation of the operational goals,
• may appoint selection committees for the allocation of funding coordinated by the Graduate Academy,
• may form committees to assist the committee in developing proposals for the implementation of the above-mentioned tasks,
• proposes candidates for election as ombudsperson(s) for doctoral researchers and their supervisors,
• monitors the implementation of Heidelberg University's mission statement, the guidelines on “safeguarding good scientific practice” and on “conduct in partnership” as well as compliance with the values laid down in the university's diversity program on the topics of equal opportunities, gender equality and family friendliness in exchange with the responsible departments of the university.
