The goal of the BMFTR’s initiative is to encourage science communication projects in the field of “space exploration” that create particularly accessible opportunities for participation and are primarily participatory and dialogue-oriented in their approach. There are four thematic areas:
The application process consists of two stages. In the first stage of the process, project outlines must be submitted in electronic form by September 14, 2026, at the latest. Outline submissions without a TAN procedure or a qualified electronic signature must be printed out and signed immediately after September 14, 2026, and sent by mail to the DLR Project Management Agency in order to become legally valid. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) administers the scholarship programme “Hilde Domin Programme” with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA). The programme serves to support students and doctoral candidates from across the globe, who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin, and to provide these students and doctoral candidates with an opportunity to begin or complete a study or research degree at a higher education institution in Germany. Students and doctoral candidates funded under the programme will receive a scholarship for a degree course of personal choice and according to individual qualifications. The scholarship is sufficient to cover the necessary costs incurred during their study or research stay. Potential candidates cannot themselves apply for participation in the Hilde Domin Programme but are nominated by the management (presidiums/rectorates) of an institution or organisation which is a legal entity domiciled in Germany and which carries out an activity in the field of science, research and teaching and/or the protection of human rights, the promotion of peace and democracy or the rule of law. | |||
The Azrieli Visiting PhD Fellowship enables outstanding international PhD candidates to conduct short-term research in Israel, fostering collaboration with leading researchers. Fellows become part of a dynamic academic environment, enhancing their professional growth and expanding their scientific network. The fellows will receive a stipend of 12,000 ILS per month for four months. The programme invites them to collaborate and furthers their professional development. | |||
As in the past two years, the Gini Foundation (Fondazione Gini), in partnership with the University of Padova, is offering study and research grants for a total amount of €25,000. These grants are intended to support non-Italian graduates holding a Master of Science degree in disciplines related to agriculture, engineering, mathematical, physical and natural sciences. The grants support further studies or research at the University of Padova in the above-mentioned fields for a period ranging from a minimum of six months to a maximum of one year.

Doctoral students and graduates with a master’s degree who are enrolled at a partner university of the 4EU+ Alliance may apply for the university diploma in “Entrepreneurial and Intrapreneurial Project Management.” The program is designed for anyone who wishes to gain practical experience in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship, and project management in an international setting—whether as an intrapreneur in large companies, in innovative startups, or in the field of social and environmental transformation. The hybrid program runs from November 2026 to June 2027 and is jointly offered by the eight universities of the 4EU+ Alliance. | |||
The Research Council of the Field of Focus in the Natural and Engineering Sciences (FoF2) aims to stimulate innovative research by harnessing the interdisciplinary potential of the Heidelberg campus to identify and develop emerging research fields. It therefore supports proposals that initiate new interdisciplinary research nuclei and open novel research directions at Heidelberg University. The program seeks to establish new research areas through strong interdisciplinary networks that foster collaborative initiatives and enable the formation of competitive research consortia. The Research Centre on Antigypsyism (RCA) at the Heidelberg University’s Department of History (Centre for European History and Cultural Studies) announces a research fellowship with an annual funding amount of 20,000 € and with project start date January 1st, 2027 (or between January 1st and May 1st, 2027, depending on the kind of scholarship; see below). The research fellowship – initiated by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation – pays tribute to the decades-long commitment of Romani Rose, Chairman of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma, to human and civil rights. The Romani Rose Fellowship is awarded to particularly gifted and committed researchers from countries in the European Union. The research fellowship is awarded in two forms, depending on the individual application:
Applicants are invited to present a research proposal on a self-selected topic. The research topic should be related to antigypsyism studies or a related field, such as racism research. Interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged. The applications will be reviewed by a commission established at the Research Centre. | |||
The Heidelberg Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HGGS) invites applications for Graduate Membership. We are looking for motivated doctoral candidates with an interest in interdisciplinary research. Heidelberg University provides through the HGGS an interdisciplinary programme and certificate in the Humanities, Law and Social Sciences, which offers valuable experiences in cross-disciplinary methodological expertise, interdisciplinary teamwork, science communication as well as international workshops and PhD-led conferences. The HGGS programme complements and supports the regular doctoral training at the faculties and it can be adapted to fit individual doctoral research paths. Next to regular admission procedures, scholarship recipients of the Landesgraduiertenförderung (LGF) and the Begabtenförderungswerke (funding organizations for the promotion of young talent) as well as research assistants at one of the six participating faculties qualify for Fast-Track Admission in the HGGS. | |||
Participants are invited to submit COST Action proposals contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe. Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged. The Open Call Action proposal submission, evaluation, selection and approval (SESA) procedure is fully science and technology-driven and will ensure a simple, transparent and competitive proposal evaluation and selection process, reflecting the bottom-up, open and inclusive principles of COST. All proposals are to be submitted via the dedicated online platform of the COST Association used for grant management, known as e-COST. | |||
Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are exchange visits aimed at supporting individual mobility and training of researchers and innovators through general activities of Working Groups. These visits must take place at a host organization located in a country different from that of your affiliation. STSM applicants must be enrolled in an official research programme as a PhD Student or postdoctoral fellow (completion of their PhD within the last eight years). An STSM ought to support the scientific advancement of the FLAVOURsome COST Action while simultaneously providing participants with access to unique data, instruments, and methodologies that are unavailable within their own institutions and enabling them to acquire new skills. Each year, a small number of STSMs will be granted for technology transfer and training across laboratories in various member nations enrolled in the Action, as specified by the COST framework rules. The last day of the short-term scientific mission should be no later than 30th September to guarantee the reimbursement. | |||
This call for proposals is open to researchers at colleges, universities, and non-university research institutions in Baden-Württemberg who are working on innovative concepts or technological developments aimed at reducing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. Projects may be carried out as individual projects or as collaborative initiatives involving multiple institutions in Baden-Württemberg. British-German research teams are invited to submit their joint research proposals within the scope of all themes within EPSRC, through the responsive mode standard grant funding route, and all corresponding subject areas of the DFG. With this scholarship program, the DAAD supports master's students, doctoral candidates and postdocs from various disciplines who are working in the field of "green hydrogen". Funding is provided for research projects and self-organized internships in the extended European Research Area (ERA). Funding is also available for a stay in other non-European countries (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, Japan). The fellowship are intended for life scientists who wish to pursue a career in science journalism and journalists who wish to deepen and broaden their knowledge of the latest research fields and technologies. Fellows will receive stipends for a duration of three to twelve months to fund stays in media outlets of any type, editorial offices or research institutions of their choice to help advance their careers. Life scientists applying must have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or higher, and must have published samples of any kind of their work in science journalism on topics related to basic biological research. Applicants must reside in one of the 31 EMBC Member States. Applications can be submitted throughout the year, with three selection rounds per year. All complete applications received by 1 February, 1 June or 1 October will be considered. All applicants will be notified no later than four weeks after the respective selection deadline. | |||
The Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) grant funds a visit to a host organization located in a different country by a researcher for specific work to be carried out and for a determined period of time. These exchange visits aim to support individual mobility, train young researchers, and foster collaboration between institutions through the activities of the Action’s Working Groups. Each year, several STSMs will be funded to promote the exchange of techniques, knowledge, and expertise between laboratories in different COST Member States. An STSM must directly contribute to the scientific objectives of the TEAR-Precision COST Action (CA24112), while enabling participants to acquire new skills, access specific data, instruments, and methods not available at their home institutions. A maximum of €4000 can be awarded. STSM applicants must meet one of the following criteria: - Be engaged in an official research programme as a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher. - Be employed by, or affiliated with, an institution, organisation, or legal entity with a clear research remit. - Applicants must be from a COST Participating country. The TEAR-Precision STSM grant calls are open on a continuous, first-come, first-served basis. Please apply 3 months before the proposed starting date. At a minimum, applications must be submitted 30 days before the start date of the research visit. | |||
In view of the dramatic situation in Ukraine, the Vector Foundation would like to offer low-threshold support to refugee scientists quickly and unbureaucratically. To this end, the Vector Foundation provides funding to universities and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg to temporarily employ fled Ukrainian researchers in existing working groups and projects. Universities, colleges and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg can apply for the funding together with the guest researcher. The funding will be paid out in the form of a fixed sum of 25,000 € per funded person. This call is open to all subject areas. Heidelberg University supports researchers who are willing to publish articles in open access journals with a publishing fund to cover article processing charges. One of the prerequisites for funding is that you are a researcher at Heidelberg University as well as the submitting or corresponding author of the article, who is responsible for the payment of the publication fee. |
