LERU Doctoral Summer School 2026 “Artificial Intelligence across University Disciplines – Perspectives and Hands-on Experience” - Application deadline: 25-01-2026
The 15th edition of the LERU Doctoral Summer School will be held at KU Leuven from 6 – 11 September 2026. The theme of this Doctoral Summer School will be “Inter-, Multi- and Transdisciplinary Perspectives on Health”.
The LERU Doctoral Summer School at KU Leuven seeks to foster increased cooperation in research on health across all academic disciplines and in tandem with extra-academic partners. The timing is fortunate, since 2026 also sees the opening of Leuven’s new Vesalius Museum of science, healthcare and society. Participants in the Summer School will be invited to join in pre-opening trial runs of the permanent exhibition and share their critical assessments in dedicated sessions of the Summer School program.

The LERU Doctoral Summer School welcomes participants from all disciplines whose research focusses principally on health broadly conceived or promises to lend itself to extension to health research.
During lunch breaks, there will be poster sessions on LERU Health Institutes and Young Researchers’ Careers Initiatives.
As a member of LERU, Heidelberg University can send 1 or 2 doctoral candidates to the summer school. The Graduate Academy will select the final participants from the group of applicants.
Interested doctoral candidates should send their applications by email to the Graduate Academy (graduateacademy@uni-heidelberg.de) at the latest by January 25, 2026. The application must consist of the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae and motivation letter including a short description of the doctoral project (in English)
- Letter of recommendation from the doctoral supervisor (in English)
The application should not be longer than 4 pages.
Participation in the summer school will be supported by the Graduate Academy with a travel grant to cover the participation fee (including course materials, accommodations, etc). Participants will be responsible for their own travel, meals outside the program, and private social activities.
