LERU Doctoral Summer School 2021 “Reasserting the Value of the Expert”

The annual Doctoral Summer School of the “League of European Research Universities” (LERU) will take place at Trinity College Dublin, in Dublin, Ireland from August 8 to 13, 2021. Provisions have been made to run the summer school remotely if travel is not possible at that time.

The organizing team of this year’s summer school has developed a stimulating program to explore with participants current and emerging threats to the role and value of the expert in Europe and ways in which researchers, and especially early-stage researchers can respond. The participants will discuss ways of reclaiming the role of the expert and ultimately put these strategies together into a position paper that will be submitted to LERU.

The summer school is aimed at doctoral students at an advanced stage of their training who are highly motivated to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.

A draft program is already available Adobe.

As a member of LERU, Heidelberg University can recommend 1 or 2 doctoral students for participation in the summer school. The LERU organizing committee will make the final selection of participants.

Interested doctoral students should send their applications by email to the Graduate Academy (graduateacademy@uni-heidelberg.de) at the latest by March 15, 2021. The application must consist of the following documents:

•    Curriculum vitae and motivation letter including a short description of the doctoral project (in English)
•    Letter of recommendation from the doctoral supervisor (in English)

The application should not be longer than 4 pages.

Participation in the summer school will be supported by the Graduate Academy with a travel grant (most likely covering the participation fee).
