Call for Participants – LERU Doctoral Summer School 2023 “Concepts of intervention science applied to global challenges”

Dear Doctoral Candidates,

the 13th LERU Doctoral Summer School will be held at Heidelberg University from July 2 - 8, 2023. The theme for this year’s summer school will be “Concepts of intervention science applied to global challenges”.

The aim of this year’s summer school is to explore a science of intervention – to convey conceptual knowledge of practices and methods to identify intervention need, to design interventions and to establish their impact, performance and social value using examples from the domains of climate change, pandemic prevention and social justice. Participants will learn the theory of intervention science, the various methodological concepts and apply this knowledge by developing, as a group, a research idea and pitch for potential interventions and methods to tackle the most pressing societal challenges.

The summer school is aimed at doctoral candidates at an advanced stage of their training who have a strong motivation for the science of real-life interventions. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the summer school and must be prepared to take part in all activities. All sessions and activities will be held in English.

Participants will receive a preparatory reading list ahead of the summer school. The preliminary program is available in the attachment Adobe.

As a member of LERU, Heidelberg University can send 1 or 2 doctoral candidates to the summer school. The Graduate Academy will select the final participants from the group of applicants.

Interested doctoral candidates should send their applications by email to the Graduate Academy (graduateacademy@uni-heidelberg.de) at the latest by March 13, 2023. The application must consist of the following documents:
