8 doctoral scholarships in the Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies

Deadline: 15th May 2012

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia
and
Europe in a Global Context"
at Heidelberg University welcomes applications for up to 8 doctoral scholarships.

Applicants must hold an M.A. or equivalent in a discipline of the humanities or social sciences with an above-average grade, and must propose a research project with a strong affiliation to the research framework of the Cluster. In line with the Cluster's focus, the GPTS's research profile centres on the flow of concepts, institutions and practices between Asia and Europe. The Cluster challenges the master narrative of asymmetrical Western domination along with its historical explanation, its methodology, and the resulting structures of the humanities and social sciences.

The Graduate Programme offers a monthly scholarship of 1000€. Future scholarship holders will be supported in framing their research through advanced courses, individual supervision, and mentoring.

Important: This call for applications is subject to budgetary approval of the Cluster of Excellence for the second funding period of the Excellence Initiative of the German central and state governments. A decision is expected by June 16, 2012. In case of success, the new funding period would start on November 1, 2012.
