Im Januar 2023 können Sie in unseren Kursen Möglichkeiten zur Unternehmensgründung kennenlernen, die Grundlagen guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis einüben und erfahren, wie man effektiv visuell kommunizieren kann. Auch wenn Sie lernen möchten, wie Sie richtig zitieren und Plagiate vermeiden oder sich im Umgang mit Argumenten schulen möchten, haben wir die passenden Angebote für Sie.
Entrepreneurship for Young Scientists – Theory and Praxis Lab // 17.–18.01.2023

The workshop invites young scientists to get first (or advanced) insights in entrepreneurship: How to start with an idea and develop a business idea? What is a business plan? What is the canvass model? What about the personality of founders? And, of course, do I need a business management certificate to start a business? (The answer to the final question: No!). The first day is primarily dedicated to theory. The second day is designed as a practice lab: We will work with concrete ideas and aim at a business ideas – this step is also known as „entrepreneurial design“. The workshop aims at young scientists who are thinking about starting a business or have already an idea. If you have already taken first steps (e.g. getting in touch with a startup lab, application for exist) we recommend that you continue to follow the path you are already on.

Good Scientific Practice // 18.–19.01.2023

The major objective of the “Good Scientific Practice” workshops is to know and understand the basic rules and values of the responsible conduct of research in all its stages, according to local, national and international regulations and guidelines. The participants will explore the differences and grey areas between good scientific practice, questionable research practice and scientific misconduct. They will learn how misconduct can be recognized and prevented, and how it should be addressed and dealt with in case it occurs, and what damage it can cause if handled improperly. The participants will learn to develop appropriate solutions for difficult situations in the process of science. They are encouraged to speak with colleagues about mistakes and problems.

Richtiges Zitieren und Vermeidung von Plagiaten // 24.01.2023

Der Kurs vermittelt einen Überblick über Fragen rund um das richtige Zitieren und die Vermeidung von Plagiaten. Im Mittelpunkt stehen folgende Fragen: Was muss ich zitieren und wie viel? Wie gehe ich mit Abbildungen um? Wie häufig sind Plagiate und wie können sie vermieden werden? Wie kann ich Plagiate mit und ohne Software aufdecken? Teil des Kurses ist auch der Austausch zwischen den Teilnehmenden – und dies über Fächergrenzen hinweg.

Logik und Argumentation // 26.–27.01.2023

Das Seminar richtet sich an Doktoranden und Doktorandinnen, die sich im Umgang mit Argumenten schulen möchten. Der Ansatzpunkt ist dabei nicht die Rhetorik, sondern das Verständnis der logischen Grundlagen des Argumentierens. Logik als die Wissenschaft des gültigen Schlussfolgerns ist zwar für einen kompetenten Umgang mit Argumenten extrem wichtig, in der Regel wird sie jedoch nur in mathematischen und philosophischen Studiengängen unterrichtet. Ziel des Seminars ist es, einige leicht nachvollziehbare logische Prinzipien für wissenschaftliches Arbeiten anwenden zu können. Die Teilnehmer:innen lernen Techniken, die dabei helfen, Stärken und Schwächen von Argumenten schnell zu erkennen, Argumente präzise auf den Punkt zu bringen und in komplexen Debatten den Überblick zu behalten.

Dear Doctoral Candidates,
we wish you happy holidays and much success and health in 2023! In January 2023, you can learn about ways to start a business, practice the basics of good scientific practice, and learn how to communicate visually effectively in our courses. We also have the right courses for you if you want to learn how to cite correctly and avoid plagiarism, or train yourself in the use of arguments.

Effective Visual Communication of Science // January 23, 2023
9 am–1 pm; Jernej Zupanc (Seyens)

You will learn to visually communicate your complex research ideas and results so any specific audience (scientists or non-scientists) effortlessly understands your messages. We will not focus on aesthetics but on how understanding human visual perception can inform your design decision for better comprehension of your scientific images, posters, and slides. You will also design a graphical abstract of your research, discuss it with peer scientists in a group exercise, and get actionable advice and feedback on your own materials. It is an immersive workshop, comprehensive, structured, memorable, easy to follow, useful and fun.
