Panel Discussion and Workshop 4EU + "Career Development & Leadership"
Starting November 16th, 2022, Heidelberg Graduate Academy in collaboration with the Heidelberg branch of the 4EU+ European University Alliance is offering a training package on “Career Development & Leadership” for doctoral candidates from all 4EU+ partner universities with international speakers from academia and business. The training package consists of three consecutive events and activities. The registration process for the workshop on November 17th and 18th has closed.
We invite all interested parties to introductory talks and a panel discussion on "Career Development and Leadership" on November 16th, 2022, at the Heidelberg University Graduate Academy. In this panel discussion, which will be broadcast online, the Graduate Academy and experts from both academia and industry will explore many questions about career development for early career researchers. We will welcome input and questions from the participants and there will be open discussion on the challenges and the aspirations of leadership for early career researchers.
We hope you can join us online for what promises to be a lively conversation on career development and leadership in an academic context. Please register by Monday, November 14th on our website!
The initiative is financed through funds provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Ministry for Science, Research and Art of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

How (and why) to become a doctoral candidate – Reception and information session for master’s students

If you are approaching the end of your master’s studies and are considering pursuing a doctorate at Heidelberg University, this event is for you. New doctoral candidates generally begin their PhD with many questions about registering and enrolling, funding their doctoral studies and much more. The Graduate Academy would like to provide you with the information necessary especially for your first steps toward a doctorate.
At our event How (and why) to become a doctoral candidate we will inform you about our own services as well as about other helpful contacts within the university. You will have the opportunity to meet the Graduate Academy team, to ask questions and to get to know other master’s students interested in pursuing a PhD.

Getting Started on Your Doctorate – Reception and information session for doctoral candidates

New doctoral candidates generally begin their doctoral project with many questions about registering and enrolling, finding housing, obtaining health insurance, funding their doctoral studies, learning German and much more. The Graduate Academy would like to welcome you to Heidelberg and provide you with the information necessary especially for your first weeks and months at the university!
At our "Getting Started on Your Doctorate" event and reception we inform you about our own services as well as about other useful addresses at the university. You will have the opportunity to meet the Graduate Academy team, to ask questions and to get to know other doctoral candidates.
The next "Getting Started on Your Doctorate" event and reception will take place in 2023.

Primers for Predocs – Strategien für eine erfolgreiche Promotion
Eine Dissertation ist ein Großprojekt, das neben der fachlichen Kompetenz eine Vielfalt von anderen Fähigkeiten erfordert. Promovierende müssen ein gutes Zeitmanagement betreiben, ,nebenbei‘ unterrichten, ihre Forschungsergebnisse präsentieren, bei der Arbeit im internationalen Kontext interkulturell kompetent sein, den Berufseinstieg vorbereiten, vielleicht schon eine eigene Familie managen und vieles mehr.
In unserer Vortragsreihe „Primers for PreDocs“ stellen wechselnde Dozent/innen diese und andere Themen in kurzen Lectures vor. Anschließend gibt es die Möglichkeit, bei einem kleinen Empfang mit den Redner/innen ins Gespräch zu kommen.
